Description
The Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) funds the VET Development Centre (VDC) to deliver workforce development training to improve the knowledge, skills and practice of VET teachers, trainers and assessors, and strengthen the learning environment, experience and outcomes for all VET learners.
This VET Teaching Theory eLearn, Learners and How They Learn, has been designed as a highly interactive virtual session. This eLearn will draw on educational theory and VET policy to promote reflective practice and build advanced training and assessment skills.
Topics covered inlude
- Principles of adult learning
- Identifying learner characteristics and needs
- Supporting learners – psychological safety
- Experiential learning and learning preferences
- High impact teaching strategies.
Objectives
- Understand learner diversity and its impact on learning and participation
- Gain strategies to support learners to learn.
These are specific professional learning programs for the Victorian Government funded vocational education sector in priority areas, as a response to the Government’s commitment to quality training outcomes.

Audience
This eLearn is designed for Skills First teachers (trainers and assessors) with a Skills First 2024-2025 VET Funding Contract and is aligned to the following domains and related capabilities/learning outcomes as prescribed in the VET Practitioner Capability Framework (IBSA 2013): Teaching | Assessment
Level - Introductory (New to the topic): These sessions are aimed at practitioners that have a broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience of training and assessment.
