Family Violence Program - Tools for Managers to Support Family Violence Teachers
Description
Teachers need a range of emotional (self-awareness, self-management, intuition), social (empathy, inclusive mindset, communication, teamwork, conflict management) and cognitive skills and capabilities (critical thinking, problem-solving) to teach students who have or are experiencing trauma.
Managers have a duty of care for their staff and this session aims to support them with a greater understanding of how they can support their teachers to deliver family violence training.
These attributes are essential to good quality FV training and are not just ‘nice-to-have’ add-ons.
Topics covered:
- Good counselling, active listening, empathy and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to build trust and rapport and have a calming effect.
- A non-judgemental approach.
- Advanced classroom organisational and management skills.
- Adaptability and the ability to reflect professionally, which involves the resolution of personal experiences of FV and other trauma.
- New teacher induction
- Ability to support students while maintaining boundaries (Survey respondents).
