ACFE Online Program: Developing Digital Skills with A Blended Learning Approach
Delivered as four workshops over 4-weeks, this series aims to empower teachers in refining their blended delivery methods and fostering students' digital skills for the workplace. The program emphasizes strategies for engaging students with digital technology, enhancing their digital literacy, promoting online collaboration, and teaching fundamental digital skills through a blended learning approach.
Description
Delivered as four workshops over 4-weeks, this program will provide teachers with the opportunity to develop their approach to blended delivery and developing students’ digital skills. Digital skills for work are defined as:
- communicating via email.
- researching information online.
- handling sensitive information in virtual ecosystems.
- safely using cloud-based collaboration tools like Google Drive, Drop Box, and videoconferencing software.
Through participation in the program, teachers will develop a strategy to embed digital skills into their teaching practice to teach digital skills for work, such as:
- how to engage students to embrace digital technology
- how to upskill students to improve their digital literacy
- working and collaborating online
- teaching the fundamentals of using digital technologies with a blended learning approach.
Delivery
Each week participants will take part in a 45 minute webinar, and after a 15 minute break, a 45 minute virtual workshop to embed digital skills development into their lesson plan.
Week 1 - Setting up your digital workspace

Webinar: Confidence in the workplace comes from having the right tools to set you up for success. In this webinar, participants will gain an understanding of the digital world and the importance of embracing digital skills. Participants will learn the benefit of setting up an efficient digital workspace and the apps and programs to bring it to life.
Virtual Workshop: Participants will be walked through step-by-step how to set-up their digital workspace, download, install and programs and apps, including:
- Google Suite
- Chrome for web browsing Gmail for email
- Google Docs for document management
- Google Calendar for schedule management.
Week 2 - Digital communication & socialising

Webinar: Communicating, socialising and building interpersonal relationships online, is now more important than ever. Participants will learn that working and learning in a hybrid world calls for honing effective digital communication skills. This includes understanding how to embrace and navigate the tools that allow for digital communication and networking.
Virtual Workshop: Participants will be walked through step-by-step how to set and participate in professional social and communication platforms, including:
- LinkedIn for networking
- Slack for team 'chat'
- Zoom for virtual meetings
- MeetUp and Eventbrite for events.
Week 3 - Thriving in the workplace

Webinar: Digital tools and platforms allow us to be agile, work more efficiently and in turn save time and resources. Participants will learn how digital skills can help them to not just survive, but thrive in the workplace and classroom. Participants will learn tips and tricks to increase their productivity and creativity, using easy tools and platforms.
Virtual Workshop: Participants will be walked through step-by-step how to download, install and start using apps and programs including:
- Canva for graphics
- Trello for projects
- Google Classroom
- Google Keep for note-taking
- Life-changing desktop shortcuts.
Week 4 - Lifelong digital skills learning

Webinar: Like any knowledge or skill, digital skills form part of our approach to lifelong learning. This session will focus on the importance of personal development, and taking digital skills into your own hands, showing participants how to develop self-initiated habits that keep their digital skills sharp.
Virtual Workshop: Participants will be walked through step-by-step how to set-up and utilise professional development apps and programs including:
- Udemy and Coursera for courses
- YouTube University for video learning
- Personality and skills online tests
- Newsletters and channels to subscribe to
- Pocket App for bookmarking and reading
This program has been funded by the ACFE Board.
Audience
These sessions are for teachers of ACFE funded Learn Local providers who are new to blended or online learning. Places are available for up to 20 participants.
