Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the education sector, particularly in the area of student assessment. Tools like generative AI can personalise learning, automate grading, and assist in curriculum development, but they also pose serious challenges. This session explores the benefits and risks of AI in educational assessment, with a focus on practical, safe, and ethical implementation for TAFE Victoria.
We’ll explore real-world education use cases, demonstrating how AI can support learners and enhance feedback quality. However, we’ll also highlight a critical warning: don’t assume AI output is correct or unbiased. Educators and students must verify responses and understand the limitations of these tools.
The session will outline safe and responsible ways to integrate AI into teaching while safeguarding student privacy and assessment integrity. Finally, we’ll propose guardrails from an educational governance perspective, including policies on acceptable use, digital literacy for staff and students, and guidelines for data protection and academic integrity.
