Thought Leadership Series: Teacher Capability Uplift - Building Capability Across the Teaching Journey
As VET providers face increasing challenges in attracting, developing and retaining educators, there is growing recognition that professional learning must move beyond compliance and become an integrated approach to workforce capability development. Drawing on innovative teacher capability initiatives, this session explores how organisations can build capability across the teaching journey, particularly for educators transition
Description
This session explores how Bendigo Kangan Institute (BKI) is strengthening teacher capability through a structured professional pathway, supporting educators from entry into teaching through to advanced practice.
Designed particularly for educators transitioning from industry, the pathway builds foundational capability before progressing to reflective practice, peer observation and targeted professional development. It brings together core capability development, specialised learning and practice-based activities that support the application of pedagogical knowledge in authentic teaching contexts.
Participants will gain insights into an integrated, evidence-informed approach that connects professional learning with organisational priorities, regulatory requirements, capability recognition and workforce planning. The session will consider how moving beyond discrete, compliance-focused training can support continuous improvement and develop a teaching workforce that is adaptable and responsive to the changing needs of the VET sector.
