Half Day Workshop: Redefining the Concept of Competency
This half-day workshop explores the shift from prescriptive, task-based compliance toward a model that prioritises holistic capability, industry relevance and continuous improvement
Description
This half-day workshop explores the shift from prescriptive, task-based compliance toward a model that prioritises holistic capability, industry relevance and continuous improvement. Participants will examine the new definition of competency built around the integrated Application, Skills and Knowledge (ASK) framework, and how this impacts training design, assessment practice, TAS documentation, and evidence requirements.
Through practical examples and collaborative activities, attendees will learn how to design and validate integrated assessments that reflect real workplace expectations and allow assessors to make defensible, evidence-based judgements. The workshop also covers the evolving role of industry engagement, updates to validation practices, and how self-assurance and continuous improvement form the backbone of quality outcomes.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the reforms, templates and tools to support implementation. The session is practical, future-focused, and designed to build confidence as RTOs move from compliance-focused delivery toward a culture of capability, quality, and learner success.
